Ann Mitchell Jazz has been hailed as one of Upstate New York’s musical “gems.” Ann has been delighting audiences for years with her vast repertoire that features classics that span the 1930’s -1950’s Jazz era. Ann’s warm, and often energetic vocals are interspersed by her musicians’ captivating piano and bass solos.
Born and raised in Upstate New York, Mitchell began singing as a freelance vocalist at the age of 16. She studied private voice while earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre from SUNY Brockport. Upon Graduation, Ann found her niche in jazz performance as the vocalist for the former bands, Brass Menagerie Big Band and Bob Ames & Co.
Ann’s great focus has been to preserve and share the timeless songs recorded by artists such as Peggy Lee, Rosemary Clooney, Ella Fitzgerald, Julie London and more – through her own love and appreciation of these masters in their genre. Her interpretation and representation of the artists’ music are an inspiration to listeners of all ages and musical tastes.
Mitchell, is also a versatile creator/performer of specialized shows: A Tribute to Peggy Lee; JUDY! A Song Is Born; The Fabulous Females of the 40’s/50’s; Songs of Burt Bacharach - Remembering the chart hits of a POP legend.
Recently, Ann recorded her first CD, "Again...for the first time." The album was recorded, mixed and mastered by Andy Calabrese, featuring songs written by Gershwhin, Rogers and Hart, Coleman and Leigh, Warren, and Bacharach.
